A philosophical exploration of how social disconnection is produced and why its consequences are often pathologised.

In this workshop, philosopher and host of The Loneliness Industry podcast, Jordan Reyne presents an original philosophical model exploring how social disconnection is systematically produced and how its consequences become understood as individual disorder. Drawing on philosophy and critical social analysis, the talk examines the structural conditions that estrange people from themselves, one another and their communities. Rather than treating loneliness and distress as primarily individual problems, Jordan argues that they emerge from the normal functioning of contemporary social systems and the values they promote.

Through this framework, the workshop asks whether many experiences currently framed as pathology are more accurately understood as intelligible responses to systemic conditions that produce isolation, fragmentation and alienation.
